In the Desert, You Don't Remember...

In the desert the whole community grumbled against Moses and Aaron. The Israelites said to them, “If only we had died by the Lord’s hand in Egypt! There we sat around pots of meat and ate all the food we wanted, but you brought us out into this desert to starve the entire assembly to death. - Exodus 16: 2-4

When the Lord brings us to new a place in life sometimes we have to let go of old familiar ways so we can embrace God’s best for us. The Israelites were stuck in slavery in Egypt. It was a miserable life but at least they had three square meals a day. Eventually, God called Moses to lead His people out of Egypt and into freedom. Moses got his people across the Red Sea but now they were bogged down in the desert. The food pantry was dry and then suddenly what used to be so terrible (Israel’s slavery) looked like the good ol’ days. God’s people began to grumble against Moses and because of their shortsightedness they were willing to settle for second best. Perhaps you are at a new place in your life and God is stretching you; and you are beginning to wonder whether or not this new place is right and you are being tempted to go back to Egypt. Be encouraged and don’t go back! Let God stretch you in the new place. The Lord will provide you with manna, you will not starve. Be encouraged and don’t settle for second best when God is giving you the Promised Land.
