Seek the Lord!
The LORD is with you when you are with him. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will forsake you. - II Chronicles 15:2
These words were inspired by the Holy Spirit, spoken by the prophet Azariah, and addressed to King Asa of Judah. They were meant to prompt Asa to institute reforms and purge the Jewish land of idols so that the people of God could experience renewal. There is a great truth in this text that I have experienced in my life and unfortunately I have experienced both sides of it.
When I make an effort to be with the Lord in prayer, the reading of the Bible, and worship I find that the Lord is with me. I experience His presence and sometimes I even feel it. The text tells us that if we seek God we will find him. What does that mean? It certainly doesn’t mean God is hiding- His presence is everywhere. It means that when we seek the Lord the Holy Spirit will open our eyes so that we know and find Him. The flip side is that if we ignore spending time with God we will drift from the Lord and become alienated. Many people in this world live their whole lives ignoring God and as a consequence they are forsaken. God simply reciprocates our forsakenness. Friend, be encouraged and seek the Lord and He will find you and be with you.
